Assorted Stuph

Well, our weekend in Sturbridge was pretty much a washout.  We did get to go to the Hearthside Bounty dinner on Saturday night, due to that being held indoors.  But touring Old Sturbridge Village on Sunday, as we had hoped?  Fuhgeddaboutit!  We ended up just going straight home on Sunday, after staying overnight at the hotel.

It could have been worse.  Many, many people got flooded out of their homes due to all of this rain.  Probably the worst that happened to us was that a little water seeped into the basement, but not enough to do any damage.  I didn’t go downstairs to check, but that would be the landladies’ problem, not ours.

But some people got flooded so badly, they might need a uv pond filter or something, to keep the water clean until it goes away! People are getting around in boats in some areas, as the water is so deep, too deep to drive in!

At least the rain has stopped now, and is not due to start again for a while.  April 15-16 had better be off the rainy radar, as that is when we’re going to Manchester for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats home opener.  I’ve been looking forward to that since last season ended, and NOTHING had better ruin it.  Last year kind of sucked because I had to go alone, due to Mike being in the hospital.  At least we won’t have that problem this year…but he did put in for Thursday and Friday off, and so far, he’s not heard one way or another if it has been approved.  Mike DOES have the time on the books to take, it’s just a matter of whether the boss chooses to be a dick about it or not.  We shall see.

Tuesday night, we actually dared to go to a bar/restaurant located in the shit town we live in.  Normally, we don’t touch such places with a 39 1/2 foot pole…here is why.  But after hearing that this John Brewer’s Tavern place had a special where one could get a craft beer sampler (four 5-oz beers) and a cheeseburger with fries for just ten bucks, we decided to take a chance.  If it sucked, we could just leave and not go back.  But it didn’t suck…it was a nice place, lots of great beers to be had, and the burgers were excellent.  We will be returning.

The weather will be much better this weekend, which is good, because we have plans to go to the St. Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn concert at Harvard University.  The concert is this coming Saturday night.  We need to take the MBTA there, as, contrary to the old saying, you really can’t “pahk the cah in Hahvahd Yahd”.  Not unless you want to be ticketed and towed, for a hefty fee, that is.  We want to go to John Harvard’s Brewpub in Harvard Square for dinner before the concert, and it would be nice not to have to be walking around Cambridge in the cold and rain.  It’s supposed to get close to 70 degrees on Saturday…I like!

Meanwhile, I got two books from Amazon today about setting up a wireless home network…still trying to get this done!  I’d love to be able to sit up in bed and use my netbook, as well as let Mike be able to use his work laptop at home.  Maybe these books will help, where no one else could.  It’s worth a shot. Nothing anyone did or said worked for me, no one could answer specific questions I had about my equipment and why it doesn’t work, people just told me to call Verizon. Yeah, right, their tech support sucks donkey balls, half of them don’t speak English, and will just keep telling em to do the same crap it says to do on their website, which didn’t work. So we shall see if I can get any better advice from books.

Finally, I am officially addicted to LOLMart Shirts.  They are an offshoot of I Can Has Cheezburger, with cartoony version of many of the LOLcat pics, on limited-edition T-shirts.  I already have two of their shirts, just ordered the RoboCat one that’s up at the moment and will be gone soon.  I wish they’d bring back the Dr. Tinycat one, I missed out on that one!  A lot of other people have been asking for it, maybe it will make a reappearance!
