Terror Alert Level

Boobiethon – two more days left!

I’ve been away for the weekend, and I have been remiss about posting anything about the 7th annual Blogger Boobiethon.  But the good news is that you still have until Tuesday to make your donation.  You can either donate money, send in your rack shot (covered or uncovered boobies), or both.  Anyone who donates $50 or more will get access to the password-protected “pay-per-boobies” page, to see uncovered boobies.

In the spirit in which the Boobiethon was founded, in addition to raising money for Susan G. Komen For The Cure, there is also a “Bloggers Helping Bloggers” fund.  Each year, bloggers can nominate fellow bloggers in need.  The Boobiethon volunteer staff selects one blogger, who will then receive at least $359 in donations.

Anyone who donates can choose which to give to…Komen or the “Bloggers Helping Bloggers” fund.  Nothing to stop you from giving to both, though.  I suppose if you give $25 to one, and $25 to the other, you could still get the secret password to see the bare boobies.  I don’t know for sure, but you can always ask.

This year’s ‘thon has been nothing short of amazing.  So far, over $7,000 has been raised this year.  Last year, $5,666 was raised, so this is a big increase!  And there are still two days to go!  It is especially meaningful for me because a good friend of mine, Kat, is the blogger who is benefiting from the “Bloggers Helping Bloggers” part.   She recently underwent some serious major spine surgery in her neck; it’s been hard for her, she can’t do much, not even sit at her computer and work.  No worky, no money.  She’s a single mom raising two teen sons, and she relies on her web income to supplement her disability checks.

I got the idea to send an email to Mel, who runs the Boobiethon now, and nominate Kat to benefit this year.  Kat has also contributed her time to the ‘thon in the past, every year since its inception, she’s worked as a photo editor.  She obviously could not volunteer this year.  I then emailed some of Kat’s other friends and asked them to spread the word and nominate her as well.

Well, it worked because she got picked, and the outpouring of donations has been amazing.  I came back from our weekend away, and I went and checked the Boobiethon donations thus far…as of now, they have raised $6,550.48 for Komen, and a whopping $1,005.52 for the KatScan Fund.  That far exceeded my expectations, Kat would have been more than happy with the original $359.  But since donors have the choice as to who to give to, and give directly, Kat could get more than that by the time this whole thing is over.

Please go and donate to either or both of these charities this year.  I already sent something for Kat, now I will go back and donate to Komen, too. I do so every year, have since the Boobiethon started.  I am proud to have donated to the ‘thon every year since it first started.  Whatever you can afford, they will take it.  If you donate to Komen, you can do it in memory of someone who died of breast cancer, or in honor of someone who survived it.

I hope you will check out the Boobiethon site, and do what you can to help save the boobies!
