I slept pretty late. When I woke up, Mike was gone; he had to go out and get the oil changed in the car. They were pretty busy, because he was gone for quite a while.
I know it would have been faster if he’d gone to Jiffy Lube rather than to the Ford dealer. But when we bought the car, we also bought a service plan that includes oil changes. So we don’t have to pay every time when we take it to the dealership’s service department.
Jiffy Lube has gone down the toilet, anyway. We used to go there with the old car, but noticed that the service was getting more and more slipshod. One time, they actually forgot to put new oil in the car! Luckily, Mike didn’t get very far when he noticed this, and went right back and made them put the oil in. D’oh!
Anyhoo, I hope he remembered to ask them to check the air filter today; he was saying last week that he thinks we need a new one.

So anyway, I’ve been sitting around all day, not doing much of anything but watching PBS cooking shows. We need to go to the store today, we are almost completely out of food. We’ve been living on leftovers and restaurant food since last week, time to stock up and start cooking again.
I saw this pork chop recipe on the Everyday Food TV show today. It looked very yummie, so I printed out the recipe for that. But tonight I want chicken enchiladas, they had a lot of Mexican/Latino themed stuph on the cooking shows today, and that’s making me want it.
But I’ll be making a tried and true recipe, Martha Stewart’s green enchiladas. I don’t think it’s on the website, but it is in one of her cookbooks that I have. The filling is creamy, poached chicken, sour cream, cheese and spinach, topped with more creamy sauce and cheese.
I did find this recipe on Martha’s website, but it’s kind of different from the one that I am making. No spinach, but salsa verde and cilantro. Mike hates cilantro, so I can never use it in anything that he has to eat. Cilantro is one of those things where you either love it or you hate it, no in-between. However, he doesn’t mind when I use ground coriander seeds in recipes, they taste different. But since there are very few things in the food world that Mike will NOT eat, I consider myself lucky. When I do make dishes that call for cilantro leaves, I just substitute parsley. The two herbs look very similar, but have different flavors.

And now we are back to The War Of The Air Conditioner. This happens every year, without fail. Mike gets cold during the night and shuts off the A/C, and I wake up in the morning sweating my butt off. He’s gonna have to learn that you can’t do this stuph to a menopausal woman…let HIM have a few hot flashes and night sweats, and see how HE likes it! He should just put on a damned blanket is he’s cold, I NEED the A/C on at night, now, more than ever.
Also, sweating tends to make my face break out more. After trying various acne cures, I finally found one that works for me. But since it’s been so hot, and I’ve been sweating more due to menopause and such, I’m getting a few more zits than usual. Don’t get me wrong, my skin is MUCH better than it was before I started using the acne stuph, as well as the mineral makeup. But it’s still annoying to be sweaty, and then get new zits that pop and bleed…gross! Would it really kill the man to leave the A/C on for me?
Even so, I read someplace that adult acne can get worse due to hormones, in menopausal women. I’m not on any hormone replacement therapy at the moment, and I want to avoid it, mostly because of the insurance crap. I’m on Prozac with a backup of Ativan for hormone induced panic attacks, but at least I know that the insurance pays for that, but for the $10 co-pays. But that I can live with. And I haven’t needed to take an Ativan in a long time, which is good.
But, someday, this will pass…or so they say. I hope it will be SOON!

Well, I guess I need to get to the store now, so we can have dinner at a reasonable hour!
