In vino veritas…
We here at The Passionate Ailurophile are primarily beer drinkers, and our everyday wine comes with a screw top cap. It’s Carlo Rossi, so bust us! It’s actually pretty acceptable.
But of course, we enjoy many wines that come in corked bottles…we especially love the blueberry wines from Blacksmiths winery in Casco, Maine. They sell these wines only in Maine…we’re all out, but we can pick up more at Hannaford’s in York when we’re up that was this weekend. I especially love the Roughshod, which is a fortified dessert wine.
So it’s important to have a decent wine opener. I’ve tried many over the years, and some are better than others. Don’t you hate it when you’re trying to open a bottle of wine, and bits of cork get into the wine? Yeah, me too!
If you are a true oenophile*, you might like to order your own personalized wine openers, to give out as favors at a wedding or other party, or to give with a gift of wine. Or, if you run a restaurant, you can have them made up for use behind the bar. In any case, it’s always good to have a good wine opener or two on hand!
*Oenophile = lover of wine. Philos is Greek for “lover of”, and they like to slap words on top of that. As in, “ailurophile = lover of cats”. I’m so cool to know all of these Greek words!
Oh, and I know Latin, too. The title of this post, “In vito veritas” means “truth in wine”. So, if you want the truth from someone, give them lotsa vino! ![]()
