Won't you let me take you on a sea cruise?
So…after the semi disaster that Saturday was…here’s how Sunday went…
The weather was indeed beautiful…a nice, crisp, sunny fall day…temps in the 60’s. Definitely sweatshirt weather.
I had hoped to be able to go to Perkins Cove in Ogunquit, to walk around and look at the shops, take a scenic cruise, and eat at this place called Barnacle Billy’s Etc. But when we got there, the whole place was jam-packed, just like it was in the middle of the summer. That lot that makes you leave your keys was still boxing in cars, and charging ten bucks for the *privilege*. No thanks. We circled around once to look for other parking, and then left and headed up to Portland. We knew that parking is easier up there, and it’s less crowded, has boats, shops, and good places to eat.
So, we got there and parked in our usual place, the garage across the street from Gritty McDuff’s Brewpub, where we had lunch and hung out for a while. Then, we went out to look for a boat ride to go on.
Portland was pretty quiet on this Sunday afternoon, and our usual boat places had canceled their afternoon/evening cruises due to not enough people to sail with them. But we knew that we could always go over to the Casco Bay Ferry Terminal and take a ride on one of those boats. These boats are designed for people who live out on the islands and need to get back and forth to the mainland, but they let anyone who pays the fare ride a round trip. We’ve done this a few times.
