Frickin’ Jehovah’s Witnesses bothered me again today. Will they EVER let up? I swear, it seems they are getting more aggressive around here. What’s the deal with them, anyway? Do they carry around a map of the neighborhood, with the houses of people they’ve converted crossed out, and just go visit those who are still heathens? Are we among the last few heathens in town, is that why they bother us so much?
Mike says I should not be so hard on these people, because going around trying to convert people is supposed to be part of their religion. Well, too bad for them…I’m NOT interested, and I feel they have no right to keep pounding on my door.
They are getting more persistent when it comes to how long they stay on the porch and knock. Today they pounded on the door. As usual, I just ingnored it and hoped whoever it was would go away. But about ten minutes later, they pounded again, even louder. Sheesh, they stood there on my porch for TEN MINUTES waiting for someone to come to the door? Once again, I ignored them, and about five minutes later, they slipped something into the mail slot. It was some stupid little sales brochure for the JWs. That went right into the circular file.
So far, we have not gotten and campaign door-knockers this year. It’s unlikely that we will, at least not for the Presidential campaign. It’s pretty much a given that Barack Obama is going to win in Massachusetts, so neither candidate is wasting their time and money campaigning here. The only reason we see their ads on local TV is because the Boston TV stations also serve southern New Hampshire. NH is a battleground state, so they both are campaigning there.
The only other big stuph on the ballot here is Senator John Kerry running against some Republican guy I never heard of, and the three ballot questions. It’s possible we might get door-knockers for those, but I am still going to ignore them. Besides, I have already made up my mind how I will be voting next Tuesday, and nothing anyone can say at this point is going to change my mind. So let them go and bother someone else.
Also, if I should open the door to someone who wants me to vote NO on Question 3, I might commit a serious act of violence. I already want to tthrow something at the TV or the radio when I hear their “vote NO on 3″ commercials. Dog racing, at least here in Massachusetts, is a dying business. There are only two tracks here anyway, Wonderland and Raynham. I’ve never been to either. But I heard from someone who’s been to Wonderland that it’s kind of skeevy, mostly skeevy old guys hang out there and bet on the dogs. I don’t think skeevy old guys have all that much money to spend at the track. Once their clientele dies off, these tracks will probably just go out of business anyway.
I was very disappointed that this question did not pass back in 2000 when it was first put on the ballot. But back then, the track people had more money to spend than they do now. The “NO” peopole now seem to be doing more radio than TV ads, because radio is cheaper. This year, the “YES” people seem to have more cash, they are running more TV spots, especially starting this week.
I think the dogs will win this year.
