I hate people…
…some of them truly are the scum of the earth.
You guys know that I live in New England…where it happens to be VERY COLD right now. It ain’t exactly some nice Texas Gulf coast waterfront property, where the weather is warm all the time. Nope. We just had a big snowstorm, and today we had a heat wave…it made it all the way up to 40 degrees today. It’s about 35 right now.
So, I was in the kitchen, when I thought I heard meowing coming from outside. It wasn’t any of our cats, they are all inside, safe and warm, where they belong. I tried to look out the kitchen window to see the kitty, but it was too dark. But the kitty must have seen me draw the curtains, because the meowing got louder. Mike heard it, too, so it wasn’t my imagination.
I found a disposable dish and filled it with cat food, and brought it outside. No kitty in sight, maybe s/he got scared when I came out and ran away to hide. So I left the dish of food outside, near the kitchen window where I’d heard the meowing, and went back inside. Maybe then the kitty will come back and at least have a decent meal.
This pisses me off to no end, that people can just let cats roam free like this. It’s really not safe any time of year, since we’re right on a main drag. There are four bus routes on this street, as well as a lot of car traffic. Also, we have a large population of bored teen and pre-teen thugs (aka the FFA™ - Future FELONS of America) around here, who might well be likely to find and torture stray pets.
But, as I said, it is floopin’ COLD around here. There is still snow on the ground. Yet people here still allow their cats to roam free. I see this all the time, have seen it for years. Many of the free-range kitties have collars and ID, which means they do belong to people, but the dumb-assed people let the cats run loose all the time.
Back when we were feeding Pumpkin outside, sometimes this little black kitty would come along and eat some of the food I put out. I didn’t mind, the poor thing was hungry, too. But that cat had a collar, so it belonged to someone. So I didn’t try to take that one in…only Pumpkin, because no one seemed to be his owner. Once we started feeding him, he seemed to be hanging around all the time. The black cat only came around once in a while, so we figured that s/he had a home to go to.
But one day, Mike and I were going out, and it was about 20 degrees out, snow and ice on the ground. And who did we see but the little black collared kitty, running around outside…Mike nearly hit it with the car. I want to know, what kind of a person allows their pet to run free when it’s so damned cold out?
I wonder if this was the black kitty, or some other cat? If I find out that this was indeed the black kitty who was out there meowing its brains out, I swear, I’m gonna kill something. I’m going to try to catch that cat and see if there is any ID on the collar, and I’m going to be reaming someone a new one.
Unless I just decide to catnap the poor thing and remain silent. That might be better for the kitty in the long run. Anyone who allows their pet to roam free in this weather doesn’t deserve to have it back. It’s a living creature, not an object that one can do what one wants to with.
I hate people!
