I HATE the MBTA!
…but that’s a rant for a whole ‘nother post. Let’s just say that their ineptitude in more than one way made me late for my doctor’s appointment. Luckily, this was not a problem, I called to let them know I’d be late, and they said it was okay, they were kind of backed up with patients themselves.
I think I am going to like my new doctor. She seems very nice, and a good listener. The practice is very efficient, they had gotten all of my records from the three visits to the ER and had them on hand before I came to the appointment.
The good listener thing is important to me. One of the things that Mike doesn’t like about Dr. Quackenstein is that he does NOT listen. I mean, if a doc prescribes you a medication, and it has horrible side effects, this is something that the doc is supposed to listen to when the patient brings it up. When Mike had the severe stomach cramps from Lipitor, he did tell the doc…several times. But he chose to ignore it for the longest time, until Mike gave up and just quit taking the stuff on his own.
Anyway, Dr. S is a nice young Indian woman, seems very sharp. The last thing I wanted was to be stuck with some old geezer guy, especially since most of my issues seem to revolve around menopause. I just feel more comfortable with a woman, and I did feel comfortable with Dr. S.
She doesn’t seem to think I need to see a therapist. She spent a lot of time talking to me, and believes that the anxiety is due to hormones, and not anything bad that is going on in my life. She thinks that I can be successfully be treated with medication. So now I have another kind of happy pills, as well as refills for the first kind, because it takes a while for the new ones to start working.
I had to get more blood drawn, for other routine tests, and I have to go for a mammogram on Monday. I’ve never had one before, I hear it squeezes the hell out of your boobs and it hurts.
Even though Dr. S appears to be quite away from her menopausal years, she seems to really understand what I’ve been going through. And that is very, very good.
So tonight after Mike comes home, we go to get my scrips filled…I also need to get Caltrate with vitamins, she prescribed that, too. And then we’ll go out to eat, since it’ll be getting too late to cook.
As for the MBTA rant, I’ll probably post that later, over on Six Great States, since it is more New England related.

I am so glad that you have a good doctor who is listening to you and taking you seriously.
The mammograms kind of suck, but it’s fairly quick and it could save your life.
Really, I am just thrilled you have a good doctor!
Now you can see for yourself that not all doctors are bad or evil like the ones Mike has been to, so I’m hopeful that she stays nice and that you start getting the medical attention that you have probably been needing but avoiding for years.
In all the years we’ve known each other now, you’ve never gone to a doctor, so I’m sure that you’ve needed to but just didn’t go.
I’m hopeful that she will help you with everything that you need right now, and that you build a trusting patient/doctor relationship so that you always get medical attention when you need it.
