I should use Utterz more often…
I signed up for Utterz right before I went to Vegas in November. But I’ve only used it a few times since, for straight photoblogging from my cell phone, I find Flickr to be easier. But if you want to add voice and video to your moblog posts, Utterz is the way to go.
I mostly used Utterz to whine about how sick I was, and was missing out on a lot of fun. Here I was, in one of the nicer Las Vegas hotels, and I was as sick as a dog. At least I spared you all the sounds of me calling Ralph on the big white phone. And I did call him a lot that weekend. It sucked.
My phone doesn’t have a video camera, just a still one. But still, I should start doing more Utterz posts, just so I can annoy you with the sound of my voice. And I probably will, when baseball season starts, on my baseball blog. Sights and sounds of the games, yanno?
Today I got an email from Utterz about making a cool Presidential candidate badge for your blog or MySpace/Facebook/whatever. Mine is at the top of the right sidebar. The voice message is kind of lame, and I recorded it about a hundred times before I finally sorta liked it. But I did include my most important message about *bitching rights*!
You can make one, too. And Utterz is free to join, you can use it from any phone, or online.

I used Mike’s old TracFone to record my message today. The service plan he has with that expires at the end of June, and he has a TON of minutes on it. I had transferred all of the minutes off of my old TracFone to his. But then we decided to switch Mike to Virgin Mobile, too, so he could get a better phone, one that didn’t turn itself on and ring in the middle of a meeting at work. The crappy TracFone did that all the time, very annoying. We were going to switch him anyway, but ended up doing it sooner than expected.
So now I have his old phone, which I have been using to make calls, especially long-distance ones. Why run up bills on the landline, or use up my own Virgin Mobile minutes, when I have a ton of minutes on this phone that will be lost if they aren’t used by the end of June?
Anyhoo, I went to use this phone, only to find the battery dead. So I plugged in the charger so that I could use it. There was a voice mail there, which I decided to listen to, just for the hell of it.
As expected, it was for this John Mayo dude, who had the number before Mike did. But sheesh…it’s been about a YEAR since Mike got the number with TracFone, and people are STILL calling the guy who had it before? That was actually another reason he changed carriers now, to get a new number so that he won’t get any more calls for this guy. As it is, no one has Mike’s cell number but me, so on one else would be calling for him.
But what really amazed me was the message…a very long message from some guy who clearly knew John and his family well…about some trip they were planning with John’s mother and grandmother. And he’s calling John on a phone number that he hasn’t owned in a year? Very odd that John hasn’t given his new number to his family and friends.
John Mayo is also a deadbeat who was getting tons of calls on that number from collection agencies. Maybe that’s why he changed his number. But still, not to tell family and friends? Makes no sense to me.
I am halfway tempted to call this guy back myself and tell him that John will never, ever be calling him back or emailing, because he’ll never get the voice mail.
Well, maybe if he calls again, and the phone is charged up and turned on and I’m there to answer…then I’ll tell him. But perhaps calliing him myself is not a very good idea.
