Oh, joy…
I went downstairs to do some laundry, and there’s a big puddle at the foot of the stairs. Not so huge that it floods the whole basement, but big enough to be annoying.
The landladies are gonna shit when they see it. They are not home now, but as soon as they go downstairs to do their own laundry, and see it, all hell will break loose.
The first thing they will likely do is ASSume that it’s a leak coming from our apartment. I don’t think so. I saw no evidence of anything dripping from overhead, and besides, there’s no plumbing where the puddle is. Our fridge is right above where the puddle is, and I did check, no water leaking out of that. I mean, I’d see water all over my kitchen floor if it were, right?
It looks to me like there’s a crack in the foundation someplace, and water is seeping in from outside. We got about three inches of snow last night, then the temps went up to close to 50 degrees, and it’s been raining like a mofo all day. There’s a very narrow alley on that side of the house, just a couple of feet wide, between us and the building next door. Said alley has NO drainage. So all of that water has to go someplace, I suppose.
The crack, wherever it is, was likely caused by the weather we’ve been having. It’s the same principle as to why the potholes around here have been getting worse lately. When it freezes, thaws, freezes, thaws repeatedly, it can cause even concrete to crack eventually.
So no doubt, they’ll call in one of their usual half-assed fixer-upper guys to look at it. I just hope it’s not this guy, I never want to see nor hear his big mouth ever again. But in any case, it’ll be someone who will make a lot of noise and annoy me for as long as he’s here…I think that’s a requirement to be hired to do work for them.
I just heard the landladies come in. Now I’m waiting for the sonic boom.
I just hope that they have at least enough common sense to realize that it came from outside, and not bother us tonight. It’ll be bad enough for us to hear them screaming about it.
Gack.
