So I need to go to the dreaded Registry of Motor Vehicles ASAP. My license needs to be renewed by Friday, my birthday, and I’ve been putting it off. Mainly because I’ve also been putting off going to the eye doctor, and was nervous about passing the RMV eye test.
Anyhoo, there’s no time now to get an eye exam and a new prescription. My scrip is such that they can’t do it at one of those “glasses in an hour” places.  They have to send it out somewhere, and it takes about two weeks to get them.
So I decided to give my glasses a VERY good bath. Yeah, I’ve been cleaning them every day, but I admit I’ve not been using the best methods. And since I’m so damned blind when my glasses are off, I couldn’t see what was happening to the lenses. I thought it was MY vision getting cloudier. I panicked when I realized that there was nothing I could do to make them clear again. Cleaning them in not-so good ways did its damage over time.
Then I remembered that someplace, I had a second pair of glasses with the same prescription, with kind of light brown tortoise shell frames. I stopped wearing them after I got the ones I’ve been wearing, the navy blue frames. I had gotten that pair for free at Sears Optical, when I went there to get prescription sunglasses.  Just so happened they were having a “buy one pair, get a second pair free” promotion. So I got the shades and the navy blue glasses. I liked the blue ones so much better that I put the brown ones away and wore the blue all the time.
The shades, which I haven’t used in a while, just happened to be sitting in plain view on top of the dresser. I put them on, and WOW…I could see so clearly!
But I knew that I had to find the brown glasses, because the RMV would not likely allow me to take an eye test wearing shades. I had no idea where the hell they were…I searched high and low and I finally found them. Luckily, they were in a protective case, so they didn’t get all scratched up.
The difference is freakin’ AMAZING! Here I thought that my vision was a lot worse than it actually is…but it was just the glasses getting scratched and cloudy. The brown ones hadn’t been worn long enough to suffer any abuse, and were therefore clean and clear. I am floored over how much better I can see now.
I probably still should go and get an eye exam and new glasses soon, but at least now, I have a much better chance of passing the RMV’s vision test. The last time I had to take is was ten years ago, and I remember it being a joke. This is Massachusetts, after all, hopefully, it is still a joke. Given the way most people drive in this state, they might now be giving away licenses in Cracker Jack boxes.
Now that this little drama is over, I need to take a shower and get ready to go to the RMV. May as well try to do it today, and get it over with already. Then that’s it for another ten years…when it comes up for renewal again five years from now, I can do it online. But since I got to renew online last time, they’re making me come in this time.
Fun, fun, fun. I’m sure I’ll be back later with a slew of “assholes in the RMV” rants.
