Pac-Man fever…
I got this e-mail from Apple the other day…they were advertising game downloads from iTunes for the video iPod, which I happen to have. They have some classic games, such as Tetris, Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man (why isn’t she called “Pac-Woman”?).
I am still stuck in a time warp when it comes to video games. I don’t have a PlayStation, a Wii, an XBox or any of that stuph. I do have this Atari thing, as well as one of the old Nintendo systems. And an ancient, non-color Game Boy. And I still do play with this stuph sometimes.
I don’t know why that Atari thing on Amazon is so expensive. I got mine for about $25.00 from Sears. And it is the exact same thing.
Anyway, I have always LOVED Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man. Back in the day when they were popular in the arcades, I had a job in a mall. The mall had an arcade, and I’d often spend my lunch breaks in the arcade playing these games. I even bought that “Pac-Man Fever” novelty record! Click HERE to hear a clip of the song.
I guess I’m still stuck in the 80′s in many ways. My favorite channel on XM is the 80′s channel (except when they play too much rap…can’t stand rap!). But I love most of the music from that decade…Bon Jovi, Duran Duran, The Police, Boy George, and the like. I nevre get tired of them!
And yes, once in a while, the 80′s channel plays “Pac-Man Fever”. Usually it’s when someone calls and asks to hear it. No, I’ve never called and asked for it, though!
I’m still Pac-Man crazy, even 20-something years after it was big. I have discovered that they have original arcade Ms. Pac-Man games at some of the rest stops along the Mass Pike. I remember stopping at one on the way home from a trip to Old Sturbridge Village. We needed a restroom break, so we stopped at one of these places. I forget which one(s) have Ms. Pac-Man; some of them have different games.
I always drive Mike nuts at these rest stops. He is anxious to get going, but I say, NO! I still have two more lives left…OH…just got a free one. You get a free life after you reach a certain score. Even after years of not playing, I’m still pretty damned good at it.
Anyhoo, I downloaded the Ms. Pac-Man game from iTunes. These games cost $4.99 each…not bad for a video game! I’ll see how I like playing it on the iPod before deciding whether or not to buy more. I’m sure that using the controls on the iPod will take a little getting used to…no joystick like in the arcade games…but it should not be too hard.
These games only work on the video iPod, by the way…you can’t play them on the computer.
I’ll have to remember to let you know how I like it!
