Should I buy a Kindle?
As much as I love paper books, I’m seriously thinking that I should purchase a Kindle. I look around this apartment, and there are books and magazines piled up all over the place. In every room except the bathroom!
They’re not all mine – Mike is equally guilty of buying lots of books and magazines. I think he has more magazine subscriptions than I do!
But anyway, this apartment is small, and we’re running out of room to put stuph. We will have to pack up stuph we no longer look at much and take it to our storage unit.
If you want an idea of how many books we have – I have over 500 cookbooks alone. I stopped counting at 500, if I were to wager a guess, I’d say I have almost 700. And I just got two new ones from Amazon yesterday.
Having a Kindle would be a good way to apply some diet pills to our book/magazine collection, that’s for sure. I’m sure that pretty much anything we want to read would be available for download.
But now I hear that Barnes & Noble is getting into the act, with their own e-book reader, called the Nook. It’s not out yet, but it’s available for pre-order. It’s the same price as the basic Kindle, $259. So in addition to deciding whether or not to buy one of these gadgets, I now have to decide which one.
I’ll check out both, read reviews, and decide. Maybe Mike and I can give these to each other for Christmas!

Sony is also making a book reader, buy.com sells it.

I LOVE my Kindle, best move ever… but the new nook from Barnes and Noble looks like it may one up the Kindle in a few ways… Just check them both out, I have heard the Sony one doesn’t quite live up to the Kindle or Nook… The only downside I have found to owning one is I can’t pass a book onto a friend after reading it…

The neat thing about the B&N e-reader is that you can loan or borrow books from another B&B e-reader for two weeks! That’s the only reason I’d consider that one. But since I don’t know anyone else who plans to get it, I’ll wait to buy that for a while.
Instead I’m thinking of getting an iPod Touch (I don’t want the phone) and getting the kindle app for it. I’m not sure if it’ll be too small to read books on, but I’ll try it.
I hear that Amazon.com lets you download the first chapter of any book in their Kindle collection for free. If you like it, you can buy it. I also heard they have some free Kindle books, too, although I haven’t checked out their collection yet.
Good luck with whatever you decide!

Hi. I’m thinking of getting one as well. I might try one of the other brands, like the Sony Reader. With the holidays coming up, there might be good sales. I’m waiting until they get to be under $200. They could be useful if I want to take a bunch of books on a trip, and I don’t want to put 10 paperbacks in my bag.
