The first one to come out with a Linux version wins!

Remember how I posted a while back about wanting to buy a Kindle or some other ebook reader?  Well, I have not made any decision yet.  But I recently learned that the Barnes & Noble Nook reader is now available as a free download, for both PC and Mac.  I was excited about this, until I looked, and saw that the PC version only works with Windows, not with Linux.  My netbook has a Linux O/S.  B&N does say, however, that there may be a Linux version coming up in the future.  I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for it.

Then I got an email from Amazon, saying that they now have a free downloadable Kindle reader, this one for PC only.  None for the Mac yet, but if me and the Mac users start holding our breaths waiting for versions that are compatible with our systems at the same time, I’ll be the one to die first.

My desktop has Windows XP, but my netbook has Linux.  I knew this when I bought the netbook, I wanted to try using that O/S, because it has a lot less crap on it than Windows.  I do not regret the purchase, I absolutely love this netbook, it’s actually more pleasant to use than my ancient desktop.  But this was before I knew that there would be ebook readers coming out for free.

There is no point in downloading an ebook reader on my desktop.  I am NOT going to sit here at my desk reading books.  Rather, I want to read in bed, in boring waiting rooms, on vacation, such as at outer banks vacation rentals and stuph.  Can’t exactly lug around a big old desktop for that!

So I will probably end up buying a Kindle or a Nook or the Sony one, because there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell that these will be available for a Linux system any time while I’m still alive and can still see well enough to read anything.

So I’ll just keep shopping around, reading reviews and all, before I make a decision!

You wouldn’t have links to the downloads, would you? The netbook I’m getting for Christmas is a PC.
