The world today is absolutely crackers

Saturday, 29 November 2008, 4:28

Seriously.  I never go out shopping on Black Friday, because people are freakin’ insane.  And here’s yet another reason to stay home:  Wal-Mart employee gets trampled to death by insane shoppers.

What the hell is wrong with people?  They care more about getting a bargain on a big-screen TV or whatever, than the safety of their fellow human beings?  This is one of the sickest things I’ve ever heard.

It’s bad enough that these idiots pissed away their Thanksgiving by camping outside of Wally-World since Thursday morning.  Sheesh, is getting a bargain even worth THAT?  But then they stampeded into the store, killed this poor man and hurt others, and still bitched when this store opted to close due to the death.

I am SO glad I don’t work in retail any more.  And I never will again.  I’ll live under a bridge, in a cardboard box, before I’ll ever take a retail job again.  Black Friday was bad enough back in the day, but it seems people get crazier and crazier every year.  I refuse to have anything to do with it.

We did go out, though, to dinner at the Naked Fish, and then to the B.B. King concert at the North Shore Music Theatre.  Although we had to drive past several malls and shopping centers to get to both the restaurant and the theatre, the roads were probably a lot less crazy than they were at the butt-crack of dawn, when most of the psychos were out.  We didn’t even leave the house until a little before 5PM.

No psycho people at the Naked Fish or the concert.  We sat in the bar area of the Naked Fish, and it was nice and quiet there  The concert, on the other hand, was completely sold out.  But the crowd was pretty well-behaved.  And B.B., even at age 83, still puts on a damned good show.  More power to him for being that old, and still touring most of the time.

So how was your Black Friday?

I don’t get sucked in to the Black Friday frenzy! Not only did the guy die but another woman that was trampled was said to have had a miscarriage.

I also think it is sick how people handle the day after Thanksgiving. Like you said they wasted their Thanksgiving and then spent all of the day after at the malls and stores too.

    I will be shopping online.

My whacko mother was out there at 3am. I think she’s completely nuts and I don’t have anything to do with that insanity. I would much rather sleep!

Unfortunately, tramplings and similar things aren’t new – do you remember the early 80′s when women were fighting to the death over Cabbage Patch Kids?

If stores are going to be open on Thanksgiving Day (K-Mart) and then open at 4am the next morning, why even close at all? How can retail employees enjoy the holiday at all when they know they have to be up in a few hours to fight with crazy people over a $15 DVD player? It’s just become too much.

The ONLY reason I was out on Black Friday at all is because I work retail. Luckily, our customers aren’t nearly that whackadoo. What happened to the good old days of just beating your fellow shopper down for the last Cabbage Patch doll? I also read about a shooting in a Toys R Us store in California. That wasn’t shopping related, but still, it’s a testament to all the crazy going down on Black Friday.

I’m the blogger Kat was trying to help with wordpress, btw. Thanks so much for your help! I’ve followed every instruction and every bit of advice as best I can, and am still getting 500 Internal Server errors when I change my structure. Maybe I am just cosmically meant to have default permalinks :)

I used to use a customized version of this theme as well; I wish you could see what I did with it! You’ve done a wonderful job with it yourself :)

Oh….I see that CommentLuv works for me on your site. How on earth did you remove the heart graphic? I can’t seem to find a way to do that.

Leeanne, I think you can get a lot of better deals online, anyway. Amazon has free shipping for orders over $25, and I always take advantage of that. And think of all of the gas you don’t use cruising around some mall parking lot looking for a space to park!

As for the alleged miscarriage, I heard that the lady and her baby are fortunately going to be okay. Thank goodness for that.

Nicole, I think it is obscene that K-Fart was even open on Toikey Day in the first place. This is not allowed in Massachusetts, but we see the ads here because our TV stations serve New Hampshire, where this crap IS allowed. It pisses me off that retail workers can’t even get this one lousy day off, before having to go to work and deal with a month of crap, and then another month of more crap when people return all of the stupid shit that other people bought for them.

I will NEVER work retail again. I won’t work for shit wages, and risk getting trampled to death, while retail CEO types sit in their ivory offices and collect most of the money, while doing NO work.

I remember the Cabbage Patch thing. And the Furby thing. Remember those? People fought over them, paid through the nose to get one, and then I saw them being sold at yard sales the following summer, because the brats got bored with them.

Glad I never bought into that crap!

DevilishSouthernBelle, I tried to help as best I could…it sounds like Lisa from the forums was able to get you straightened out. Kat’s a good friend for getting you help, now I wish the PU2B guys would just let you on the forums already!

As for CommentLuv, I’m using an older version of it, which is why there is no graphic. I’m also using an older version of WP on this blog, which is probably not good. I’m too lazy to upgrade stuff, even though I should!

But the older version of CommentLuv will likely NOT work on a newer version of WP.
