These people are scum…

May 29, 2008 User Imagechristine (Who am I?) has spoken

Story here.

A British couple abandoned their newborn twin girls, conceived by in vitro fertilization, at a hospital — because they wanted boys.

The 59-year-old mother and 72-year-old father conceived in India with fertility treatment and returned to England for the birth.

They told horrified hospital workers they did not want the “wrong sex” babies immediately after the Caesarean section at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton, England.

The husband then asked how soon it would be before his wife could try IVF again in the hope of getting a boy to continue the family name.

Female babies are often abandoned in India for being the wrong sex.

The mother — one of Britain’s oldest— discharged herself against the advice of doctors who told her she should stay for more than a week after her operation.

This is so wrong, in more ways than one. Last time I checked, there was always a 50/50 chance as to what gender a baby will be. If people want kids badly enough, they should be happy with whatever they get. The fact that they want a boy, and refuse to accept girls, makes me doubt that these assholes would be good parents.

And look at how old these people are! Yanno, there’s a REASON why menopause exists. When a woman reaches a certain age, it just isn’t a good idea to have babies. As the eggs get older, they also run the risk of being more defective, which of course can be passed on to the baby. Eventually, a woman’s body stops making eggs, and menstrual periods stop.

That’s the way it is for me right now. I think my Aunt Flo has finally kicked the bucket, as she hasn’t come here to bother me in about a year now. Yes, I am quite happy about that!

Anyhoo, if women choose to have babies, they should do it when they are younger. There is also the issue of possibly kicking the bucket before the kids reach high school. In the case of this couple, the wife would be pushing 80, and her husband 90, when these kids graduate from high school. That is, if they don’t croak first.

This whole thing is just plain sick. Any doctor who would do IVF on them now, so that they might have the almighty boy-child, is a greedy-assed scumbag.

But then again, perhaps these girls will be better off, having been abandoned by these losers. I grew up having to hear shit from my father every single day, because I wasn’t a boy. Maybe if I’d been abandoned at the hospital for being a girl, I might have been adopted into a better home. I hope somebody nice will adopt these babies and give them a good life.

I have to disagree with this part:

There is also the issue of possibly kicking the bucket before the kids reach high school.

Only because there are a lot of mothers that die before their kids reach high school- through vehicle accidents, homicide, or illness. A blogger I know has ovarian cancer that metastasized and she’s only 30.

But right on about everything else. Those people should be smacked hard. Outrageous! Have they not heard about adoption? If that wasn’t an option, how about ultrasound to find out the sexes prior to the birth. Idiots.

Just came back from reading the article in The Times of India. I noted this part:

The couple are of Indian descent

Sadly, many couples in Indian abandon and/or kill their daughters in favor of sons. I don’t want to sound like I’m stereotyping, but this is a serious issue with girls in India (some people there believe a girl isn’t even human until age 2 and have been said to kill their girls just before that age).

At any rate, The Daily Mail says that the hospital where the girls were born denies they were abandoned. Still, the thought of it…>:(

Any doctor who agrees to impregnate a 59-year-old woman is just nuts.
