Zicam – it works for me!

So I talked yesterday about trying Zicam for my cold, so as not to screw up my weekend plans and all.  Mike did manage to bring home the correct one (there are so many varieties that I could see him getting easily confused).  I decided to try the Rapid Melts with Vitamin C.

This product is on the pricey side…$11.99 for a package of 25 tablets.  Mike bought two packages because they were on sale, the second one was nearly free.  And according to the instructions, you have to take one every three hours, and then continue for 48 hours after your cold symptoms subside.  But the every three hours thing is just while you are awake, you really don’t have to set an alarm and wake up every three hours to take this thing.

But the verdict is that this stuph really works…at least for me!  I took three doses last night, then went to sleep and so far I’ve had three doses today.  The sore throat that was coming on yesterday is all but gone, and so is the runny nose.  The sore throat part is the most annoying part of a cold to me. One of the things we’re doing this weekend is having a nice dinner at Fore Street, and it wouldn’t be much fun with a sore throat…then I’d have a hard time eating anything!

And before any of you holier-than-thou health fanatic comment spammers leave any smart-assed comments…yes, I do know about the lawsuit over this product allegedly making people lose their sense of taste and smell.  I chose to try it anyway.  Besides, according to Snopes.com, whether the zinc in this product causes this problem is still undetermined.  So if you come here and want to play Dr. Tom Cruise or something, get lost.  The stuph works for me, and yeah, I still do have my sense of smell and taste.   I admit that the tablets do leave a funny taste in your mouth after they dissolve, but that goes away quickly.

Maybe the problem is just with the variety of Zicam that you have to spray up your nose.   I don’t know…I wouldn’t buy that anyway, because I don’t like sticking things up my nose.

I’m just happy that I seem to have averted this cold, and now my weekend plans will not be ruined!

I know of several other people who have said this works for them as well. I personally have never tried it because I have a zinc sensitivity, but as I said, I do know people who swear by it.

    Glad it’s helping you.
